Comparing HD plasma TV With Enhanced Video
Are you as excited about the HD televisions available today as the rest of us? If you have seen the price tag on a HD plasma TV then you know
that they are a bit more than your average television, so before making that purchase you need to know that you are really getting what you are
paying for in high picture quality. Maybe you are better suited for a lower priced plasma monitor that offers enhanced definition that still
delivers exceptional picture quality, keeping in mind the signal being provided for the programming and who is the manufacturer and their
reputation.
Input signal and the quality of the picture really depend on the internal processing circuits of the monitor. You need to know if your cable
provider does indeed send out an HD signal for all programs because there are many programs today which indeed are in high
definition. If your signals are not set up for an HD signal and your using a HD plasma TV you will get about the same as if on an enhanced
definition monitor.
Typically, screens that produce an image at least 720 pixels wide are considered to be high definition. The standard enhanced definition
plasma screens will produce an image measuring 853 by 480 pixels, in the 13:9 ratio on plasma televisions that are 37, 42, 43 and 46-inches. The
pixel count will remain the same in the 4:3 format, but don't expect to be able to view the entire picture that is presented.
High Definition Hits Peak On Larger Sets
A true HD plasma TV will offer a superior image when showing a high definition signal or when showing a DVD movie available in high
definition. The typical HD plasma TV will offer a resolution of 1024 x 768 on screens sized at 42 and 43-inches. The resolution increases to 1280
x 768 on screen sizes 50, 61 and 63-inches.
Some of the higher quality HD plasma TV outputs for 50, 61 and 63-inch units will be 1365 x 768 pixels. This would indicate that the quality
if the signal being received, coupled with the quality of the HD plasma TV, will determine the quality of viewed image. If the cable input only
accommodates enhanced definition, the money saved from buying a HD plasma TV could be significant.
The image seen on a HD plasma TV, even with the highest resolution will not suffer if it is coming from a standard type signal, but a true
high definition signal will not make a difference in quality when viewed on an enhanced plasma screen.
